Owen J. Gromme
Owen Gromme is fondly considered "The
Father of Modern Wildlife Art". Owen, a Wisconsin
native, spent his working years as the curator of the
Milwaukee Public Museum and is responsible for many
of the numerous dioramas throughout the museum. During
his years at the museum, fine art painting was an avocation.
Upon retirement in 1965, he devoted full time to painting.
Owen is not only well noted as the premier painter of
Wisconsin wildlife, waterfowl and songbirds, but he
also authored and illustrated the bird identification
book, "Birds of Wisconsin". Owen was honored
in 1976 as the first Master Artist at the prestigious
Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum in Wausau, Wisconsin.
Popov's continue to offer a wide selection of retired,
limited edition prints and original works of art painted
during Owen's lifetime (Owen Gromme passed away in 1989
at the age of 95).
